always finding new art

As the kitchen "remodel" is coming along, I am starting to look at the other rooms around the kitchen and getting ideas going for them.  Next up on the remodel list is a new kick wall for the bar and new light fixtures.  But as I was searching around for light fixtures, I took a minute to catch up on my google reader.  Check out this art giveaway I found!

what about me?

Hello blog world, hopefully you're still hanging around awaiting my next entry... yeah right. Who am I kidding?  You probably got tired of waiting, left, and now I am talking to myself.  Oh well.

I have decided it's time for me to do some evaluating and thinking in my life. I always take on more than I can chew; I always let my plate get a little too full; I never know how to say no.  I tend to avoid conflict, but at the same time, I can be biggest bitch I know. It's awkward thing for me to find that balance I so desperately need. I really need to cut some of these "extra curricular" activities and focus on what makes me happy.  But of course, I get right to the point where I am ready to sat, "Ok, I need to step down" I get that overwhelming feeling to keep doing it.

I want to make more time for my art, and my family, and my happiness overall.  I really need to work on myself more before I keep working on everyone else at this point in my life.  I so badly have the nurturing gene in my body.  I yearn to make sure everything and everyone is taken care of, but who is taking care of me?  Doesn't seem like anybody is most of the time.

Let the cleansing and growing begin...

new link!!

Hey kids! Life is calming down... just in time for the fall semester to start up.  Such is my life.  I am definitely on a mission to enjoy the rest of this summer while I can!  Lots of projects are in the works... the kitchen should be done in the next month or so.  I feel like this project is the one that will never die.

I went to my favorite antique shop, The Oak, on Saturday after my weekly farmer's market trip, and found the most incredible print from an old tobacco crate!  I am completely obsessed with this print now.  The picture, the colors, the lines... ah everything!  It's an odd shape, but really, I am hoping to find somewhere to have it enlarged to a poster for the new kitchen. I will keep you posted.  In other kitchen news, I noticed that the old loading dock next to my farmer's market is being gutted.  I might have peaked in and saw a ton of old wood lying this abandoned warehouse!!! I assigned the hubs a new project - he is to find out how we get our hands on this wood.... for as cheap as possible!  Hopefully he pulls through.  I get more and more excited over this tiny remodel everyday.  I can't imagine how people do those projects where they gut the kitchen and start over! Holy moly that would take me for-e-ver (yes, you have to say it like in Sandlot).

In other lindavenema news, I have finally become an adult and purchased my domain name!  That's right ladies and gentlemen.... is up! Ok, sure, it may take you right back here.  But come on! I gotta start somewhere.  Thanks to my fitness buff and IT guru, Luke for the help!

The girl who lives her life in a MIA kind of way

I would be the girl who says "Oh I am so inspired..." then disappears! So sorry about that.  Some call me Joyce's recent post reminded me I have this blog and I should use it, dammit!

As ktj has already blogged, she's home!! I could not be a happier girl... okay well maybe if I won the lottery and could have all the expensive handbags my little heart desires, but that's besides the point.  My best friend in the whole world is home. Did I mention that she's living with me and the hubs?! It's a real life episode of three's company and I LOVE it!!  My only other wish would be that poppa and momma joyce would buy the house across the street from us that just went on the market.  Ok....Ok... maybe having our parents live across the street isn't the BEST idea I have ever had, but I think it's a decent one.

With Katie moving in, I haven't had much space in my studio to do anything. I kept throwing my junk in there to make room for the roomie.  But last night, i put some vinyl on the record player (hello, high school obsession with records instead of CDs) and cleaned the heck out of that room!  I finally have a floor again!  I hung new curtains, found a home for a new vintage fan that the hubs got me, semi-organized my framed art, and now I am ready to create something incredible in there.  If anyone sees a nice easel at a yard sale or something for cheap, let me know.... that is one thing the studio is lacking.

Lately I have been uber inspired. It's almost like everywhere I go I notice something small that I tuck away in my brain in the inspiration folder or I snap a quick photo with my phone to remind me later what it was that I saw.

My new favorite thing to do on Saturday mornings is to go to the farmer's market in Old Town Petersburg and after that, I head over to an incredible little coffee shop called Demolition Coffee.  It is, no lie, the most inspiring place I have been in a long while.  My head is swarming with ideas for the house and for my art.  And those of you who know, know I haven't been painting or creating as much I would like to, and I am really feeling invigorated and excited to get started on some new projects.

I have decided that my home is going to be an art project for me.  It's the perfect blend of creativity and practicality that I need in my life right now.  I am going to be putting as much energy as I can into this.  Who needs a canvas when you have a whole house?!

Here are some photos I snapped from the coffee shop last time I went:

Send Peyton Away

Friends and family, please help!!! I received this e-mail today from a dear friend of CreateAThon on Campus.  You know, the event that helps non-profits be awesome! :-)

The director and founder of CreateAThon on campus is named Peyton Rowe.  She is an incredible mentor and inspiration to me throughout my life.

She has been invited to participate in an incredible learning opportunity.  Please help us send her to IMPACT: Design for Social Change in New York this summer.  This is an outstanding honor some of the greatest designers have participated in.  That being said, honor and prestige do some with a pretty big price tag.  VCU has been nice enough to start us off with a $500 donation, but we still need $10,000 more!!!!

Please help us SEND PEYTON AWAY!!!

Check out the cause on facebook, by clicking here.  If you are not addicted to facebook and social networking like the rest of us, you can donate directly through a secure service.

To learn more about the event, check this site out.

I just want to take a second to thank you in advance for your help.  It really does mean the world to me!
